Substituted acridines have been in use as anti-malarials for many years quite successfully. Quite recently, the scope of potential applications was dramatically enlarged due to the finding, that several of them show quite promising activity in vitro against prion based diseases. A convenient route to these compounds was established by using a modified Buchwald-Hartwig amination sequence. The compounds were shown to possess anti-prion as well as anti-amyloidogenic activity.
