| The tyloindicines F, G, H and I are structurally unique indolizidine alkaloids with potent and unique differential profiles of cytotoxicity in the NIC’s cancer cell line assay. Since they were isolated only in very small amounts from the aerial parts of Tylophora indica, the development of methods for the synthesis of these alkaloids and related analogues was initiated. Approaches toward their synthesis will be discussed, including novel chemistry, using beta-amino acids for the synthesis of indolizidine and quinolizidine alkaloids. The application of this chemistry to the synthesis of combinatorial libraries will also be discussed. |
