New method for the synthesis of 3-(E)-yliden-2(3H)-furanones

| New methods for the preparation of 3-yliden-2(3H)-furanones (1) are of great interest because many natural and unnatural members of this class exhibit potentially useful biological activities. So far, only few methods suitable for the preparation of 3-yliden-2(3H)-furanones have been reported in the literature. A new, one-pot synthesis of 3-(E)-yliden-2(3H)-furanones starting from appropriately substituated 2-silyloxifurans will be described.
