Ortho-furyl substituted biphenyls are an interesting scaffold that serve as intermediates to important compounds in the fields ranging from materials science to pharmaceuticals. In this report, we demonstrate an assembly of the o-furyl biphenyl scaffold via a one-step protocol. Also described are studies aimed at understanding the underlying mechanism of the reaction.
