Preparation of biotin derivatives by catalytic oxidative carbonylation of diamines

As an alternative to phosgene or phosgene derivatives, catalytic oxidative carbonylation has been applied to preparation of biotin methyl ester and related bicyclic systems from the corresponding diamines. Yields of the ureas are moderate to good.
