A series of fullerene-terminated oligo(phenylene ethynylene)s (1a-d and 2) has been synthesized and characterized by cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The key step in the syntheses is an effective reaction that leads to the addition of multiple terminal alkynes to fullerenes. These novel fullerene derivatives will be potentially useful as nonlinear optical and photovoltaic materials.
