Attaching an aryl ketone to the dimethyldihydropyrene photoswitch markedly improves its photoswtching response. If the aryl group fluoresces, e.g. anthracene, pyrene, then in the closed form, fluorescence is quenched, in the open form, fluorescence is strong. The synthesis and switching of these compounds will be presented.
