Weinreb amides (or N-methoxy-N-methylamides) have widely used as valuable intermediates for the preparation of carbonyl compounds in organic synthesis. Due to the established synthetic usefulness and versatility of Weinreb amides, it is of current interest to develop a new preparative method. We have developed a mild and efficient one-pot procedure for the convenient conversion of carboxylic acids to their corresponding Weinreb amides by using triphenylphosphine and bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate. Weinreb amides were efficiently prepared by this method in high yields. The results of this transformation will be presented.
