The 1,4 and/or 1,6 branched and linear trisaccharides can be synthesized using a palladium catalyzed glycosylation reaction. The pyranoses can be in either D or L forms. Key to the overall efficiency of this process is the use of diastereoselective reductions and dihydroxylations in tandem. Total 15 stereocenters of the complex structures can be achieved in 9 steps from furan ketone.
