The synthesis and characterization of several families of shell-core dendrimers are described. These species allow for significant intramolecular association of chromophores bound at the periphery of the molecule, analogous to the associations encountered in light harvesting arrays in natural photosynthesis. The discussion will focus on the use of these dendrimers as synthetic micelles and as robust heterogeneous catalysts.
