In 2003 we published transition-metal free approaches to Suzuki and Sonogashira type reactions using water as a solvent and microwave heating. In this lecture, the details of these reactions will be discussed, focusing on their scope and current limitations. Experimental considerations and mechanistic postulations will also be discussed. In addition, an up-to-date report of our exploits to expand the protocol to other coupling reactions will be presented.
