Fischer carbene complexes have been used extensively to synthesize substituted naphthoquinones via the Dötz benzannulation. We report the solid phase organic synthesis of polymer supported Fischer carbene complexes and their thermal benzannulation to generate small libraries of 2,3-disubstituted naphthoquinones. Microwave irradiation was found to be more effective than traditional thermal heating. Various reaction optimization factors such as the nature of the polymer and oxidizing agent will also be presented.
