This project is focused on the study of the synthesis of an iron complexed 5-membered ring analog of a class of compounds known as ortho-quinone methide 1. Ortho-quinone methide intermediates are synthetically and biologically important. They are believed to be a key moiety in selected antitumor drugs during their metabolism processes. We will report on the study of the synthesis of complexes 3 with varying aromatic groups from compounds 2 and their conversion to iron complexed 5-membered ring quinone methide analogs.
