The lituarines A, B, and C comprise a small class of highly complex, bioactive natural products isolated from the sea pen Lituaria australasae. Initial screening revealed significant cytotoxicity [IC50=1-9 nmol(KB cells)], however, the low natural abundance has hindered further biological evaluation. Recently we initiated efforts to develop a convergent, stereocontrolled synthesis of these novel macrolides. A summary of these results will be presented.
