The reactions of 1-iodooctane, a representative primary alkyl iodide, and 1-bromo-4-t-butylbenzene, a representative aromatic bromide, with n-butyllithium or t-butyllithium in a variety of solvent systems at near-ambient temperatures has been investigated.  The results of these studies will be discussed.
