| Glycidoxypropylsilsesquioxanes (GPSSO) were prepared from the hydrolytic condensation of (3-glycidoxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPMS). During the sol-gel process, the epoxy rings were opened, hydrolyzed with water, even at a soft condition of the reaction, resulting in the lower condensed products and an earlier gelation. The proposed formulas of ring-open GPSSO were assigned with standard spectroscopic techniques, FTIR, NMR (1H, 13C and 29Si) and MALDI-TOF MS. In this work, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) was employed to the reaction as a good solvent, avoiding the ring-open and the earlier gelation. To present aspects of two kinds of the precursors (GPSSO and GPSSO-DGEBA), electrochemical corrosions for two films on aluminum alloy (AA) substrates were measured, salt spray tests for the dip-coated samples were tested, and also the samples in a NaCl solution were studied. As the result, the corrosion resistance of GPSSO coatings modified with DGEBA was enhanced. |
