Aconitum species have been used in medicine for many centuries. Aconitum preparations have been used as cardiotonics, febrifuges, sedatives and anodynes. The new C20-diterpene alkaloid having the napelline skeleton, 3-hydroxy-12-epi-napelline, was isolated from the roots of Aconitum brunneum hand-mazz. Its structures was determined by spectroscopic analysis (1D,2D-NMR,HRMS,IR) and chemical transformations. In addition, eight other known compounds were also isolated and identified.
