Synthesis and competency of a novel dicationic phase-transfer catalyst

A novel phase transfer catalyst, 6,6'-di(triethylammoniummethyl)-2,2'-dihexyloxybi-1,1'-napthalene, was synthesized in five steps. Preliminary catalytic testing indicated that it was an effective phase transfer catalyst for the alkylation of an imino ester glycine derivative.
