The use of biocompatable systems to target protein surfaces at physiological concentrations and exploit cellular components for in vivo applications remains a challenge. In our study, we have used cationically functionalized gold nanoparticles to target beta-galactosidase. The enzyme is completely inhibited by these nanoparticles; inhibition is reversed via addition of glutathione, (the main thiol component of the cell), at physiological concentrations. This controlled release has potential applications in protein and drug delivery. ![]() |
