Conjugate additions of simple organometallic nucleophiles to a,b-unsaturated acceptors represent a powerful methodology for carbon-carbon bond formation. Despite the long history of these reactions, efficient catalytic asymmetric variants have only recently become available. We report here the synthesis of new tridentate bis(sulfonamido)phosphine ([NPN]) ligands and their application to Cu-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition reactions.
