We have reported a protocol for determining absolute configurations of alpha-amino acids from exciton-coupled circular dichroism spectra of Cu(II) complexes of their N,N-bis(2-quinolylmethyl)derivatives.1,2 The preparative scale synthesis and characterization of similar chiral alcohol, ether, and thioether complexes will be presented. In addition to configurational assignment by circular dichroism, NMR, MALDI mass spectra, and crystal structures that confirm our structural hypothesis will be described.
