We have prepared a number of new catalysts, typified by complexes 1 - 3 below, for the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones and imines which contain a 'tethering' group between chiral group and a face-co-ordinated ring. These complexes are highly stable and active in the reduction reactions, and may be prepared in gram quantities. The preparation and applications of the complexes will be described.
