The reactivity of 1,5-dioxaspiro[3.2]hexanes 1 with various heterocyclic nucleophiles will be discussed. Moreover, Lewis acids have been shown to promote the formation of 2,2-disubstituted oxetanes 3, presumably via the formation of the oxonium ion intermediate 2. Herein, we present a direct synthesis for nucleoside analogs derived from 1,5-dioxaspiro[3.2]hexanes 1.
